I Can Help

I Can Help is a humorous and realistic fiction story about a woman who goes around helping animals that are hurt or stuck. In the end, she gets all of the animals and loads them up in her car! Readers gain information from the text, illustrations, map, and speech bubble.

I Can Help uses the sentence stem “I can get the _____.” Illustrations match the text. The story includes triggering in questions. There are critical thinking questions to guide the reader. A teacher guide for reading the text and visual information is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to illustrations, starting points, and speech bubble. There is a high frequency word list within an illustration at the end of the story. An activity on drawing a picture with speech bubbles of themselves with an animal is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
