Hetty Hackett’s Farm is a humorous story about Hetty’s challenges when she buys a goat farm.  First the goats make too much noise, then so do the pigs, hens, turkeys, and roosters.  Hetty is happy when she settles on worm farming … until she discovers the worms make too many holes.  The story is told in simple repeating language patterns with both dialogue and narrative.

The story has a beginning, middle end text structure.  All the sentences are short and largely predictableQuotation marks, exclamation marks, commas, and ellipses are used.  Bold face is used for emphasis.  Display type is used to convey meaning in the text and illustrations.  Humorous illustrations support the text directly and add meaning.

The contractions can’t and don’t are used.  Interest words include horrible, racket, cluck, oink, gobble, hiss, wiggle, and shooed.
