Funky Flamingos

Funky Flamingos is an expository text that shows readers where flamingos live, what they look like, what makes them pink, how they eat, and how they clean their feathers.

Illustrations enhance and extend meaning. Photographs are labeled and some include captions. A map shows where the animal lives. A cross sectional diagram shows the inside of a flamingo’s mouth and scale diagrams show a flamingo’s height and wingspan. An index is included.

Interest words include flamingo, lakes, and feathers. Some sentences begin with a dependent clause. To conclude, simple activities that include oral, written, and visual communication are presented in the Teacher’s Guide Notes.
