Fossils

Fossils is an informational explanation.  The text explains the types of fossils, what fossils tell us, how fossils are formed, and how palaeontologists remove fossils.  The style is informative and conversational.

The book has a contents and is divided into five sections.  The text is composed of a variety of sentence types.  Captions photographs and sequence charts support the text and add meaning.  A glossary and index are provided.  The book concludes with a two-page spread that provides the characteristics of an explanation.

Some words may require clarification: palaeontologist, deserts, rare, extinct.  The suffixes -ful (careful), -ly (carefully), and -est (largest) are used.  The prefix re- (remove) is used.
