What Can You See? is a humorous and realistic fiction story about Lola’s class going on a field trip to an art museum. They see a variety of different pieces of art, and Lola talks about what she sees in them. The story is narrated with dialogue and illustrations.

Readers develop vocabulary such as verbs (looking) and adjectives (strange). Focus on suffixes and base words (giggled). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes to show possession (Lola’s), apostrophes within contractions (I’ve), capital letters at the beginning of sentences and names (Mr. Moon), question marks, quotation marks, exclamation marks, and commas.
