Fiction Readers: Safari Camp
Safari Camp is a humorous and fictional animal fantasy story about a bunch of animals at Safari Camp getting ready for bead. They all show off their different toothbrushes designed just for them. They all get their teeth nice and shiny, but no one wants to go to bed! The story is narrated with dialogue and illustrations.
Safari Camp is a simple narrative story. Illustrations match the text. Draw students’ attention to the visual features including the layout and design of the story. Enlarged illustrations of the animals’ different toothbrushes can support comparisons between them.
Readers develop vocabulary such as verbs (pump) and adjectives (electric). Focus on suffixes and base words (biggest). Opportunities arise to discuss capital letters at the beginning of sentences and names (Lioness), question marks, quotation marks, exclamation marks, and commas.
