Fiction Readers: I Am so Beautiful
I Am so Beautiful is a humorous and fictional animal fantasy story about a moth and butterfly who both wanted to stay at the same bush. They started to compare one another and realize that they both laid eggs on the same bush. They decided they both could stay! The story is narrated with dialogue, illustrations, thought bubbles, and illustrative text.
I Am so Beautiful is a simple narrative story. Illustrations match the text. Draw students’ attention to the visual features including the layout and design of the story as well as the illustrative text. Opportunities arise to discuss the purpose of thought bubbles.
Readers develop vocabulary such as verbs (laid) and adjectives (happy). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes within contractions (let’s), capital letters at the beginning of sentences and names (Moth), quotation marks, exclamation marks, and commas. Focus on suffix ful (colourful).
