Hot Springs and Brown Bears is a realistic, adventure story about a little girl who wins a two-week vacation to anywhere in the world by entering a poetry contest. She researches places that will have something of interest for everyone in her family. The family then embarks on an adventure to remember.

Hot Springs and Brown Bears uses some simple adjectives, descriptive language, language that creates suspense, and possessives with a wide variety of punctuation (period, comma, quotation marks, question marks, and exclamation points). A lot of dialogue is presented within the text in a variety of ways, including dialogue from multiple characters and unassigned dialogue.
