Burly Reid
Burly Reid is a narrative about a rich man named Burly Reid. Burly Reid has a massive house with a tennis court, a swimming pool, a go-cart track, and a helicopter. When his house catches on fire he stays with another family in town until his new house is built. However, this time his house doesn’t have a tennis court, a swimming pool, or a go-cart track because he builds those for all the people in the town. The book also discusses text connections, planning a personal recount, and features of a personal recount.
A variety of sentence types is used. The story is told in the first-person. Illustrations support and enhance the text. Text boxes call attention to literary features such as metaphors and similes, and prompt the use of comprehension strategies, such as questioning, predicting, and inferring.
