Boot Balancers Wanted is a series of humorous and realistic fiction advertisements about different professions seeking applicants for their job postings. Some of the job postings are for: Boot Balancers, Animal Hotel Chef, Flying Instructor, and Musician. The story includes a visual job posting advertisement on each page.

Boot Balancers Wanted is designed as a series of eight advertisements demonstrating how companies persuade someone to do something. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the graphics, styles, fonts, colours, and catch phrases as well as the information, layout, and design of advertisements. There is an infographic at the end of the story outlining the purpose, style, and techniques for advertisements. An activity on designing and writing advertisements for jobs is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.

Readers develop vocabulary such as nouns (circus), verbs (paddle), singular/plural (person/people), and abbreviations (USA). Opportunities arise to discuss apostrophes within contractions (won’t), colons, dashes, and nuggets. Focus on the suffix ly and base words (balancing).
