Blood Suckers

Blood suckers is an expository text that invites readers to learn about the different kinds of animals that suck blood such as mosquitoes, fleas, leeches, ticks, and vampire bats.

Illustrations depict content and ideas in the text. Many illustrations are labeled and include captions. A sequence diagram is included.  Clear, magnified images allow readers to see how these animals attach to their prey. A table of contents, a glossary, and an index are included.

Vocabulary such as host, proboscis, and digest may need to be clarified.  Many adjectives are presented in the text. To conclude, a two-page spread invites readers to learn about the characteristics of an informational explanation text with supporting examples.
