Beeman Interview
Beeman Interview is a humorous and realistic fiction interview with a man who lives with thousands of bees. Beeman tells the reporter about what it’s like living with bees, how the bees help him, how he brings the bees home with him, and his name as Beeman. He even shares a story of a time when his bees stopped a robber! The story is an interview with some narration, questions, answers, and speech bubbles to show who is talking.
Beeman Interview is an interview written in questions and answers. Critical thinking questions are provided to guide the reader. Illustrations match the text. A visual information guide is provided for teachers to draw students’ attention to the graphics, style, and font as well as the information, layout, and design of interviews . There is an infographic at the end of the story outlining why people conduct interviews. There is an exemplar and procedure for conducting an interview. An activity on interviewing an interesting person and recording their response is provided for teachers to extend students’ learning.
Readers develop vocabulary such as nouns (robber), verbs (swarm), and singular/plural (hive/hives). Opportunities arise to discuss colons, dashes, and apostrophes to show possession (teacher’s chair). Focus on long and short vowel e and discuss base words (themselves). Look at suffix ly (easily) and prefix un (unwanted).
